When you are ready to start a business from home, then you are undoubtedly wondering how to go about it in a way that will keep you sane, while allowing you to make some money.

You also want to keep it easy on the finances so that you will not be tempted to run up your credit cards. You do not want to get deep in debt.

Yet somehow, someway you need to make a profit in an effort to stay afloat.

There are some simple, important and clear steps you can take when you are ready to start a business from home:

Please do not quit your day job. This sounds obvious I know but there are first hand heart breaking stories around where this has happened.

This has resulted in bankruptcies and even divorce. That is surely not the steps you want to take to succeed.

However, it is tempting to take the great leap right away and jump into your business with both hands and feet.

But remember that until the money comes in, you will still need to pay your bills! Sorry, there is no way around it.

So instead of quitting your job completely, go ahead and see if you can cut your hours, a little bit, once you start making enough income to cover some of the bills.

Perhaps work part time at another job to pay for the tools you need to get started.

If things keep going well and gelling, with your business, you can go ahead and take a few less hours from your job.

Do not get to close to where you lose any benefits at all. These are your health line and are not worth the risk of losing no matter how good the opportunity looks. No Exceptions.

If things do not go as well as you anticipated, or if perhaps you decide against running a full time business at this time, you can increase your hours again to full time status.

Caution here. It is always dangerous to cut your hours, and risk losing benefits until you have a nice steady stream of income coming in.

If your employer is nasty, they might not let you have the hours back. Some people thought they could get hours back but they were not able to. Careful.

Save up as much money as possible. When you start a business from home, there will be a lot of expenses you will need to be able to pay on a regular basis.

Sometimes you will need to get permits or licenses. As long as your business is not a critical legal or medical one, the authorities will not usually bother you about this.

Be sure not to make your business a disturbance to your neighborhood and you will probably not need a license or permit anyway in most cases.

Maybe you simply need to buy some equipment. It is tempting to go ahead and use your credit cards to get started because it is so easy to do.

Please, I beg you please, do not do this. Do not risk losing your family and financial control of your life.

On the same hand, never, I repeat never, take out a second mortgage on your home to do this.

A business built, patiently, step by step will stand on a solid foundation. A business built up real quick will collapse like a house of cards and ruin your life.

Do not give in to these temptations, instead, go ahead and save up some money to use it for these reasons.

Get a second, part time job, and save up to buy your equipment with cash and you will be light years ahead. Your business start up will take longer but it will be far more solid with no debt dragging your progress down.

Use the time you would spend working on your business to finance your initial equipment with cash. The equipment is tax deductible also.

See your CPA for tax deductions. They will be worth the price.

Create a workspace you will enjoy. Work it out with your family so you all agree on it.

This is very important to do this way. Depending on which kind of home business you will start, you will need to have a suitable work area.

Make sure that the work area you have mapped out for yourself meets all your work needs for now. After all, you will be spending quite a bit of time there!

Create a highly detailed marketing plan. Whether you are selling a good or service, you want to make sure to get the word out. Word of mouth is the best kind of advertising.

If possible, donate your business skills to your church. You will be helping out your church, doing a very nice act, and creating the best kind of reference, word of mouth advertising, for your work besides.

Everyone will soon know about your good work and intentions.

Networking is important. Use all the tools you can find. Use the power of email signatures, business cards, and handing out freebies and coupons! Business cards are especially strong.

Business cards are very cheap on the internet and you can get help designing beautiful cards on the website you buy them from. The best prices on super cheap business cards I have found was with Vista Print on the internet.

Enjoy your business! You have probably decided to start the business because you want to do something you love and because you want to spend more time with your friends, self and family.

Learn to like yourself. This is very important.

Go charge ahead, enjoy your business and resist the urge to overwork yourself, especially in the beginning!

Always think quality, not quantity and you will prosper.

You do not want to suffer from burnout! Get out of the house at least once everyday. You will lose all your will to work your business if you do not do so.

Do something with your spouse, children and pets and let them help you come up with creative ideas.

Getting away from your business this way, lets your brain relax, recharge and come up with good ideas for you. A wonderful natural tool.

In the beginning, some of us may find that starting a home based business may seem like an incredibly difficult task.

After you make one profitable one your confidence and outlook will change.

There is much risk, if we are sloppy with our time and income involved with any business.

So we always start small to severely limit the risks we take. Right? Good!

For people who are used to subsisting on a regular salary, the thought of not having a regular stream of income may be frightening.

They should quickly learn to take ten percent of their take home income from every paycheck and bank it in a separate savings account.

This is magic. Taxes on our paychecks are so high that we will quickly learn how to adapt on ten percent less take home income.

The Richest Man In Babylon book, at any major bookstore will tell you all about this. Cut the slop out of your budget and you can do it.

Basically what you do is never ever touch this income. You keep half of it for emergencies and use the other half for slowly starting your own home business.

Take no new debts for anything else until all your debts are paid off. I did this and it is truly magic what it does for you.

There are many small home business opportunities out there and more decent ones pop up every day.

But, it just seems like the implementation of those ideas is too impractical. Until you find the right one that is.

Unfortunately enough, many of us live in a small financial world at first.

We just do not have the courage or the imagination to venture out on our own. After all, there just seems to be too many obstacles in our paths.

Here is a list of what most people have to say about using a small home business idea:

Not enough capital. This is one of the primary obstacles to starting a home based business.

After all, what business can begin without capital? The answer for this is clearly near the beginning of this article.

What most people do not see, however, is that a home based business requires less capital than other, more traditional business models. An advantage for you.

Think of Ford motor company starting in a small room at the back of the Michigan movie theater on Michigan Avenue, in Michigan.

Or Bill Gates and team starting in a garage, or the founder of Ebay working his computer for finding different Pez containers hobby for his girl friend, or the Wright brothers at Kitty Hawk North Carolina, and thousands of similar others.

After all, you already have your headquarters or office, the house or garage itself like the successes mentioned above. So you will already save money on that.

With a small home business, overhead is drastically reduced.

More importantly, job related stress and pure creativity, are dramatically balanced to your favor in the right directions.

Too risky. This is what really gets the goat of most people. What if the successful people mentioned above would of thought that?

Receiving a salary is comfortable. Or is it? Do you really want the stress and boredom for the rest of your life?

Is this what you want on your tombstone if you live to be two hundred years old? I really did not think so. So let us keep going here.

As long as you go to work and achieve a few standard goals, you can be sure of getting a regular paycheck. Hah!

Many of the great companies of the last two centuries are gone or outdated. Just the great ones now. Is that really security?

Your best security is within yourself. Believe in yourself and never quit.

At least, that is how the thinking goes now. But did you ever stop to reflect that it is the comfortable salary that presents the real risk?

By saying that a home business is too risky, you are assuming that your job is completely safe?

That you have this job for life?

Unless you own the company, that is probably not true.

In other words, by thinking that you are secure, you will neglect to prepare for the future. Please do not make this all too common mistake.

Will take too much work.

This is another excuse that most people will use when confronted with a home business opportunity.

Quality work is more important than quantity. Dedicate yourself to making ten shrewd decisions about yourself, your life every day.

If you feel that your small home business idea will take too much work, it most probably will! Learn and concentrate on working smarter not harder.

Do not let negativity defeat you before you begin.

However, if your idea will help you reach your dreams, you should not shirk from a little honest smart work?

If you have been in this world long enough, you should know two very basic things: First, that life is short; and second, that there is no such thing as a free good lunch.

In other words, you have limited time to enjoy this little planet of ours, and the only way you will be able to do that is if you work smart, not necessarily hard but smart.

Many of us entrepreneur type people would love to work at home, although few of us are actually doing so.

One of the main reasons why not many people would pursue their own interests in working from home is that they are at a loss as to how to get started at working a home business.

There are many ways to start a work at home business but the key factor is your willingness to take the risk of quitting your day job. Even if only to start a tiny, part time, small home business at first. So what are you to do?

It is a fact that lots of people hate their day jobs. Even if they like their jobs we still miss our families and pets away from us during the days and nights of work time.

The boredom is probably the worse thing. The family calls to us.

Unfortunately we could not quit for fear of not finding another work situation that gives comparable pay and benefits.

Let us try this approach. Is it really necessary to quit your day job and to start a work at home business? Actually no. At first, and as a beginning, anyway.

It is not necessary to quit your present job, cold, in order to commence a work a home business.

If you are not comfortable with this new life experience, or if you do not have enough money to tide you over until the your new business gains enough profit, then for now, do not quit your present job. Logical?

This is how almost everyone starts anyway.

A start up business seldom earns enough capital in its first few months, to carry all your expenses, so your day job is important for now. Here is the key for you below.

You can start your work at home business on a part time basis and get the feel of it. Get your feet wet.

In fact, many successful businesses started as a part time work, hobby or situation then later developed as a flourishing and profitable business.

Ebay was started like this. It started when the founder was buying different Pez containers for his girl friend who was collecting them.

He advertised to buy them on the internet. Soon others started to ask him to offer things for sale for a small fee and he was off to the races.

When you decide to start a work at home business, it is important that you are familiar, as possible, with the kind of business you want to invest your life time, money and effort into it.

Starting a business is not usually a joke, even if you are only doing it part time.

So, it is important that you have a good idea of what you are doing and not learn from scratch, if possible. However, if you like it you may still be able to do it, per below.

Bill Gates picks the best people he can find to work with to fill in the gaps that he cannot do, or does not have the time to do, himself. A classic example of leadership. Pretty simple though.

His partner, at the start, maxed the SAT test and was a perfect fit for his business. A good partner to start with, right?

The advantages of having a good working knowledge of the business you want to engage in is that you will not spend so much time, money and effort to educate yourself regarding the business.

For instance, if you are a computer programmer, you should start a work at home business that is related to computers. Or one that can be worked with computers.

Right! You are thinking, like the internet. That way, you will have some semblance of control and understanding over the things you are doing.

The more you know about your trade and the trends of it, the more confident and able, you will be to start and run your work at home business.

Of course that does not mean that if you know all the technical aspects of the business you will not have to educate yourself anymore.

There are still many aspects of the business, like leadership and management mentioned above about Bill Gates, that will help you do better if you are continually learning along the way.

Get people who fill in your gaps, to work with, to succeed and gain your financial freedom.

The good news is that you already have a firm grasp of the technical aspects.
